How professional teams version, deploy and test converted WordPress themes with Git, staging and automated visual checks.

Treat the theme as code

Once an AI site has been converted, the generated theme should live in a Git repository. Every change to templates, theme.json or custom code is a commit with a message. This gives history, rollback and the ability for several developers to work safely on the same site.

Staging and deployment

Use three environments: local, staging and production. Deploy the theme from Git to staging automatically on every merge, and to production after approval. Content flows the other way: production is the source of truth for posts and pages, and staging receives a fresh copy before larger changes are tested.

Automated checks

A simple pipeline runs PHP linting, coding standard checks and a theme.json validation. Visual regression tools take screenshots of key pages before and after a change and highlight differences. Link checkers and an automated crawl confirm that canonicals, titles and status codes remain correct.

Updates without surprises

Plugin and core updates are tested on staging first, followed by the same visual and crawl checks. This turns updates from a risky monthly event into a routine task. Small issues will still appear occasionally; that is normal, and the pipeline makes them easy to spot and fix.
