Local business SEO after moving an AI website to WordPress
For shops, clinics and service companies, local search brings customers. An IT expert explains how to protect and grow local SEO after the move.

Why local businesses are different
A plumber, a dentist or a restaurant does not need to rank worldwide. They need to appear when someone nearby searches for their service. Many of these businesses built their site quickly with an AI tool, and now move to WordPress to add pages, a blog or online booking. Their biggest fear is losing the local visibility they already have.
The good news is that local SEO depends on a few clear signals. If you keep them consistent during the move, the risk is small.
Keep your name, address and phone consistent
Search engines compare the business name, address and phone number on your site with the same details in business profiles, directories and maps. After a conversion, check the footer and contact page carefully: AI sites sometimes contain the phone number as an image or in slightly different formats on different pages.
Write the details as plain text, in exactly the same form everywhere. If the business has more than one location, give each location its own page with its own address, opening hours and map.
Structured data for local businesses
Add LocalBusiness structured data, or a more specific type such as Dentist or Restaurant, to the homepage or the location pages. Include the name, address, phone, opening hours and the URL. Many SEO plugins offer fields for this; check the result in the raw HTML and with a structured data testing tool.
Do not add review stars that are not visible on the page or that you collected yourself. That is against search guidelines and can cause more harm than good.
Service and area pages
AI sites often have one page that lists every service in a few lines. In WordPress you can give each important service its own page with real explanation, prices or price ranges, photos and frequently asked questions. That gives search engines a clear page to rank for each search.
Be careful with area pages. A separate page for every nearby town with the same text and only the town name changed is thin content. Create area pages only where you have something specific to say, such as projects you did there or a real local office.
Technical basics still apply
Keep URLs the same where possible, add 301 redirects where they change and submit the new sitemap in Search Console. Make sure the site is fast on mobile, because most local searches happen on a phone in a hurry. Compress images of your premises and team, and avoid heavy sliders on the homepage.
Update the website link in your business profiles if the address changed, for example from a builder subdomain to your own domain. This one step is forgotten surprisingly often.
Growing after the move
Once the site is stable, use WordPress for what it does best: publishing. Short articles that answer the questions customers ask on the phone, before-and-after projects and seasonal tips all build relevance over time. Rankings may move for a few weeks after the migration; that is normal re-evaluation.
Remember that bookings, contact forms and payments from the AI site are not converted and must be set up again with plugins. Small glitches after a conversion are normal and easy to fix later. Focus on consistent details, clear service pages and steady content, and local visibility usually comes back stronger.
