Webflow and Framer exports to WordPress block themes: an expert guide

How an IT consultant turns Webflow and Framer designs into clean, editable WordPress block themes with theme.json and patterns.

Why block themes are the right target

Modern WordPress block themes use theme.json for global styles and HTML templates built from blocks. That model is very close to how visual builders such as Webflow and Framer think: a design system of colours, typography and spacing, plus reusable sections. Converting into a block theme therefore keeps the original design logic instead of forcing it into an older PHP template structure.

The practical benefit is editorial freedom. Editors can change headers, footers and templates in the site editor, while the design tokens in theme.json keep everything consistent.

Mapping the design system

Start by extracting the colour palette, font families, font sizes and spacing scale from the exported site. These become the settings section of theme.json. Name them semantically, for example primary, contrast and surface, rather than by hex value, so a future rebrand changes one file instead of hundreds of blocks.

Typography from Webflow often uses fluid sizes. theme.json supports fluid typography natively, so headline scaling across screen sizes can be preserved without custom CSS.

Sections become patterns

Every repeating section in the original, such as hero, feature grid, testimonial row or pricing table, should become a registered block pattern. Patterns let editors insert a fully designed section with one click. A converter such as Convert2WP produces the pages; turning recurring sections into patterns afterwards is what makes the site scale.

Keep patterns small and focused. A pattern that contains an entire page is hard to reuse; a pattern per section is easy to combine.

CMS collections and interactions

Webflow CMS collections and Framer CMS items map to posts or custom post types, imported via CSV. Collection templates become single templates in the block theme. Complex scroll animations are usually simplified to CSS transitions; this is normal and generally improves performance. Backends and member areas are not converted and are rebuilt with plugins where needed.

Launch checklist

Validate theme.json, check every template at mobile and desktop widths, confirm that each URL from the old site has a redirect or an identical path, generate the sitemap with an SEO plugin and submit it in Search Console. Small glitches after launch are normal and are usually fixed in minutes in the site editor.
